[Note, this is the letter that came with the commercial version. The self extracting archive available on-line has no demo files, no registration card and no "spare copies".]
Dear Customer,
Thank you for selecting the GOOD Backup Utility to meet your Atari-ST backup needs. You have purchased version 1.13 of this product, which has a creation date of Monday, September 2, 1991. Please include this release date and your product serial number (found on the floppy disk label) with any correspondence with Tidbit Software Engineering Company. Also, please return your user registration card, in order be be informed of any new releases.
The distribution floppy disk is a single-sided disk, and contains the following files:
GOOD.TOS - The GOOD Backup Utility
CHECKSUM.TOS - The file checksum utility.
GOOD.NIC - A saved icon file.
GOOD_1.13 - A folder containing a spare copy of GOOD.TOS, CHECKSUM.TOS, and GOOD.NIC, in case the first copy is unreadable.
GOODEMO - A folder that contains a demonstration version of the GOOD Backup Utility. In this folder, you will find GOODEMO.TXT, GOODEMO.TOS, GOODEMO.LOG, GOODEMO.LG1, and CHECKSUM.TOS.
In addition to this floppy disk, your package should contain a user's manual, the user registration card, and this letter.
The GOOD.NIC file is a saved icon file for use with version 2 or higher of the Gribnif Software product NeoDesk. If you use NeoDesk, this file contains the official icon for the GOOD Backup Utility under the icon name GOOD.TOS.
I suggest that you read the GOODEMO.TXT file in the demonstration folder. This will display an example of using the backup utility, and lead you through a step-by-step example. You may find the manual easier to understand after watching and following the demo. Do not get these two programs confused, as the freely distributable demonstration version does not backup up the entire disk.
The GOOD Backup Utility uses an algorithm that is not restricted in any way by the TOS 40 folder limit. You will be able to backup and restore disk partitions of several hundred folders without any difficulty. The use of a "40 folder fix" in conjunction with the GOOD Backup Utility is not needed, although you should continue to use it for your regular computer use, and for using the CHECKSUM.TOS utility.
