Comments:   I lived in Haverhill from 1940 to April 1959.
I was back thre in October 1998 and also in 1977
with my 3 children shortly after my first husband
died. What changes, especially the Merrimack
River. I couldn't believe it had been finally
cleaned up and people actually wanted to live
near it and also the yacht clubs on it.
My grandparents were the late Henry B and Hester
M Whitter, very prominent citizens of Haverhill
Their residence was 271 Groveland St and they
owned the grocery store right next to their
residence, plus other businesses in that area.
I used to attend the old Riverside Memorial Church, just across the street. I lived at 98 Keeley St for a few years. When I first re-visited Haverhill in 1977, it was good to see the
old HHS was still there although it now is the City Hall. There have been so many changes, some
for the good, but downtown Haverhill I wish had
been renovated with the old buildings kept the way they were. It's kind of a hodge podge of old and new, none of it really in harmony.Too bad they couldn't have done to downtown Haverhill what
they did to old Newburyport town.
Haverhill will always have a place in my heart.

I married Bonnie Fowler and joined the US Navy in 1976. Completed 20 years of Navy Service, got my GED, and have one more semester towards my BA in Pastoral Ministry, with the Assemblies of God at Southeastern College in Lakeland Florida. Comments:   I am an ancestor of Ralph Basiliere, who had that beautiful bridge named after him. I would love to hear from anyone who could give me more information on why the bridge was named after him (I believe it had something to do with a war). Also, there is a big Basiliere family reunion planned for this June and we'd love to hear from anyone who accidently got missed!!! I essentially said good-bye to Haverhill in 1942 but, have returned from time to time to visit family. My brother Edmund and sister, Elinor Giampa, still reside in Haverhill in Phoenix Row.

Comments:   Hi from the REAL "windy city." Anybody remember us? We are direct descendents of Danny and Shirley Comeau.
We both worked at Herb's Fish Market (our grandfather) and both attended St. Joesph's School and Haverhill High in the olden days.
Our old stomping grounds were Hilldale Ave and. . . "hey anybody remember Mel's?" Can anyone name the ice cream stand in a
closet in Lafayette Square? Both of us married military hero's and have since retired and live four miles from each other in the windy
city. Both of us had a son and a daughter and a dog. Gail has lost some of her New England accent, but Pam still "paks the ca!"
The next time you see our sister, Deanna Feenstra, tell her "Hi" for us and that we miss her. Since leaving home we have lived in a
combined total of 26 different places around the world. Boy are we tired of packin' and unpackin'! If nobody remembers us, we're

I grew up on Hilldale Ave. near the High School - graduated HHS 1985, Fitchburg State College 1990. Now living in Redlands, California (near San Bernardino/Riverside...about 50 miles east of LA) and working in Palm Springs (love those 125 degree summer days!) as Operations Manager at 3 TV stations and 2 radio stations. First of all, this is a great sight!!! I am originally from Haverhill, the graduating class of 1973. I moved to Florida 2 years ago. I lived on Broadway, up near Ayers Village and had a small horse boarding facility. (Which is still in operation, under the same name!!) My dad had an electrical store on High Street since 1975, (where I also worked) it has since closed as he has retired. My hubby Dick is also a native from Haverhill, and was a firefighter there, most of his time was at Water St, (he enjoyed seeing the photo of the fire station) and also a few years in Bradford station. It was nice to "visit" Haverhill through these photos again. We plan to go back every year to visit!! Write if you remember us, we'd love to hear from you!!!!

Comments:   I lived in North Parish, on Russell St., and went to Smiley School from '52 to about '55, then was in the first calss at
in the first class at Whittier. I don't have any close relatives there anymore, but at one time darn near everybody on
both sides (Hunkins and Tilton) was there. The Hunkins shoe shop at The Buttonwoods was a gift from my grandfather,
Albert W. Hunkins, who founded Hunkins Jewelers more than sixty years ago, and passed away last month. I visited
Haverhill a couple of years ago, and checked out the Falcone Piano Company (too bad they
didn't make it...). I also wandered over to Winnekenni Castle. It was interesting that, even with my family
having moved on, I felt really connected to Haverhill- and still do.

I remember Tic Toc soda shop, (best frappes around) and the store front that showed the history of the shoe factory(ies). I remember the HHS.

Comments:   Born and raised in Haverhill. Attended St James Elementary School and Cardinal Cushing
Academy in West Newbury (class of 66). Remember swimming in Plugs Pond and
Little River (above the falls), sledding down Arch St in the winter, Pines Speedway,
Sawyers Bike Shop and Sunny Boy's Ice Cream Truck. I remember both Sawyer
and "Sunny Boy" as a couple of very caring people. Practically lived at the Boy's Club.
Do they still have the two bowling lanes in the basement? And if so do you still have
to set the pins up by hand?

Comments:   My father stumbled upon this site recently and told me about it...my mother, Judith (Dandurant) Kelley is originally from Haverhill, and I have a world of lovely memories of all of the people and places in Haverhill that I love so dearly. I truly miss this city, and hope to come back and visit again very soon...everytime I am in Haverhill, it is like coming home! I especially enjoyed the photo tour, it reminded me of climbing into my Pepay's (Herman "Pete" Dandurant) old blue van and driving all over the city, with him narrating parts of his life for me as each scene swept past the windows. I admit, looking at these photos made me a bit teary eyed, but in a good way...Pepay may not be with us anymore, but his spirit is in the town, and that is where my heart dwells as well! A beautiful site, and many thanks for all the hard work to put this together!
