Comments: Just came back to see what was new and read the Gazette also had to change my email address. I was using Sympatico but have switched servers. How's the weather down there? It's been fantastic up here all the snow is gone and the Barbacues are up and running. Just waiting for fishing to start. If any of my old friends happen to see my name send me an email it will be good to hear from someone back home. I grew up on Old Lawrence Rd. in Bradford but during my teenage years lived on Emerson St. and a few different places around that area. I do miss my old stomping grounds sometimes but after living in the boonies way out in the country I don't know how long I'd last back in the fast lane.

Comments: Grew up in Haverhill, class of'61 from HHS. Lived in Riverside. Have lived in Florida for the past 26 years, but still have family in Haverhill. My mother was a Hamel from Riverside on Keeley Street. I went to Groveland Street School and Crowell School. Would love to hear from anyone that graduated from Crowell School in 1957. I don't get back there as often as I would like to, so when I found this site I had a ball showing my friends where I work what a pretty place I came from. Hope to get back there in 2001!!! Comments: Was just tracing the geneology of my mother Sandra Livingston Davis, from John Luther Davis, from Lincoln Davis, from Mathew Watson Davis, from Daniel Nelson Davis, from Daniel III Davis, Daniel Jr. Davis, from Daniel Davis, from Elisha Davis, from James Jr. Davis, from James Davis (B Marlborough England 1585, died Havherhill Mass, 1679. In 1640, James Sr. and eleven others settled the town of Haverhill. His brother James joined them in 1643, and, along with three others, were the first board of the settlement. Pretty cool! Will plan to visit Haverhill someday.

Comments: Haverhill will be at the center of my heart always. My mother, Dorothy Arline Senter, was born at 129 Whittier Rd, in 1907 and remained there till she moved to Groveland and resided till graduating in 1924 from Groveland High. Is there anyone out there that has any old pictures of Ardway & Archibal Shoe Factory? I am putting together a early life history of my dear departed mother as this is where she use to work as a young girl while going to school. Also looking for old photos of the old Leslie's & Mitchells Store, and the old historical Pike's store in Groveland. These are all places she use to work for extra money to help the family. God bless her! Her father was Herbert Senter, shoe worker, and mother was Mabel Haddock. Thanks for any info given. Glad to see this site on Haverhill and keep up the good work. My first visit here, Oct, 99 was one that will live in my heart forever! I hope that my wife and I can return again one day soon! How time changes the face of everything, but the memories are a gift to us from God!

Comments: In old English, the name Haverhill means the hill on which oates grow. Haverhill in England was the place to which Anne of Cleves was banished by King Henry the 8th (when he got bored with her).
As part of their divorce settlement, he built her a large tudor house which is still standing today (on Hamlet Road) and is occupied. Not a bad deal if you ask me, considering that she could have had her head chopped off in line with the usual wife disposal customs!
Haverhill was also mentioned in the Doomesday book.
