Comments:   What a beautiful site you have made.
So many memories. I was born in Haverhill in 1941 and lived on the corner of Washington
and Beach strs. # 99-101. I went to Bartlett school. My mother is Lena R. (Cormier) , formally
of Hilldale Ave, and my father was George E. Scamporino. My grandmother was Rosalie Cormier
of 137 Hilldale Ave. Plug pond was my summer playground. Little River was way to cold.
The River took my uncle Gilbert before I was born and almost took me. I have lost track of
everyone in Haverhill, but would really like to see any pictures of my old school, my home,
(which was the middle three decker at the top of the street), and my grandmothers house
that sat way back from Hilldale on the river.. My mother has all the photos, but nothing beats
real current time one's.
My mother's neighbor in Louisiana is on the internet and I have sent her your site.

Comments:   I worked in Haverhill at Timmy Meehan's bar c.1975. Does it still exist? If so what has happened to Dennis, Timmy jnr. and company. Also what happened to my Castro convertible?? Haverhill's a cool town - it was almost a pleasure to draw welfare all those years ago given how co-operative the people were who worked there. Does anyone know what happened to Matthew Mulcahy, Nicky and the rest of the bartenders at Timmy's? It surprises me that your site doesn't make reference to Andre Dubus who is, without doubt, one of the finest contemporary American writers. I retain very fond memories of the Merrimack valley and I can see how Charles Dickens found it an inspirational source but it is a real pity that it also has Sacco&Vanzetti as part of its history. Whoops! Real danger of getting maudlin here. Good luck to y'all. Haverhill in England doesn't hold a candle..

Comments:   Hi! I was born in Haverhill, at Hale Hospital, in 1956. My parents are Wilbur Fiske Ball, Jr. and Dorothy Jane Graham. A lot of my family still live there. I have just begun to do family research. I have chosen to do my paternal grandmother because there appears to be no information on her. Her name was Beatrice Emma George. She was born in Merrimac, MA and died in Haverhill, MA. She lived in Haverhill all of my life. She and her husband resided on Jasper St. My parents bought the house from them and we lived there for several years. This is all prior to I-495. My grandmother's parents died in the epidemic and she was raised by her aunt & uncle on her mother's side. To the best of my knowledge they were Ned and Tressa Prescott. I can't find information on any Prescott's so I am not sure if this would be them. My Auntie Tressa lived at the foot of Jasper Street, on Main I believe, but it was so long ago. I think the Ned owned a farm on Main towards Plaistow. We use to go to the farm. It may not have been his farm, just a farm that we went to. The farm was located near a florist shop. I remember this was all on the road to Wasmaco's for ice cream. If anyone has or knows of anyone that may be able to help me in my research I would appreciate your assistance.

Comments:   My sister and me were born in Haverhill (me, 10/1/47; her, 9/14/46) at Hale Hospital. We moved to the Harrisburg, PA area 13 days after I was born. My parents, Elmer and Margaret, operated a motel there (Noah's Ark, on Rte 22) that my maternal GM, Dr. Elizabeth C. Smith, MD, purchased. My dad was working in his brother Russell's gas station in downrown Haverhill when I was born. In 1953, we moved from Harrisburg to the Los Angeles area. I've been here ever since, but my sister moved to Cambridge in the early 70's. She is now the Head Archivist for the Massachusetts Supreme Court. All (or a good number) of my father's relatives still live in the Lawrence-Lowell-Haverhill area. My father's parents were Theodore and Ida Bouvier. Any Bouviers who read this, or anyone who knew my parents or grandparents or any of my other relatives, please send me an email!

Comments:   I was pleasantly surprised at this site and the photographs. I graduated from Bradford College in 1991. While I was there, I became very interested in local history, largely due to my history professor Dr. O'Malley who was very enthusiatic about the Haverhill area and wrote a book about it. I became v. interested in the shoe industry in Haverhill and wrote my senior thesis about it & gave it to the Haverhill Historical Society. I went to many abandoned shoe factories, one that was still operating at the time(it has since closed) and met a number of people who worked in the factories. I am grateful for the time I lived in the area.

Comments:   Thanks for the photos. Beth and I lived 22 years in Georgetown and then moved to Haverhill in 1982 when I became Admisnistrator of Hale Hospital.. In 1984 we relocated the facility from Buttonwoods Ave. to its present location. Very fond memories of the people, the city, the Haverhill Public Library, Haverhill Rotary. My only disappointment was the City Council, which spent it's time tearing the city apart rather than finding ways to make it better. Has that changed?
